Welcome to Infrared Scotland - Infrared Photography by Colin Leslie
I'm a photographer based in the Scottish Highlands. Inspired by the infrared photography of people like Sir Simon Marsden, I purchased a converted digital camera and set out to capture the magic and mystery of Scotland in IR.
Infrared photography captures light from outside the visible spectrum and has a unique feel and aesthetic which lends itself to the beauty and mystery of Scotland. IR photography captures the near infrared part of the light spectrum. As human eyesight can't record that, what I am actually capturing are reflected infrared tones that are then converted to black and white tones. This can produce strange, ethereal images, perfectly suited to the places I like to photograph.
Sir Simon Marsden once described Infrared Photography as "the unreality of the real and the reality of the unreal." Capturing light beyond the visible spectrum is easier now than ever before and opens up a whole new world (or worlds), presenting the everyday and mundane in (literally) a new light and rendering the already mystical a dreamlike quality. This site is dedicated to Infrared Photography, join me on my journey beyond visible light.
I hope you enjoy the images on the site and feel free to contact me for further information.
